Business of Yoga

We are excited to launch our next 200 hour yoga teacher training program led by founder, Celeste Cusumano and lead teacher, Lauren Hemley!

Our teaching team will guide you through this life changing experience, allowing you to deepen your practice and come out of this training ready to teach yoga.

Celeste and Lauren have built this training with a focus on practice teaching. We want our students to find their voice and to feel confident that they can lead a class after our 10 week training. Not only will you find your voice, you'll receive a well rounded training, diving into the heart of yoga, exploring not just the physical practice, but also the spiritual, magical, wonderful aspects of living a yogic lifestyle. You will learn about yourself in this training, expect growth, inspiration, and connection to something deeper. Then learn how to share and express that passion and inspiration through your very own yoga classes. Here at Asana Soul Practice, it's not just your average yoga class, it's a soul practice, an experience.

Curious about what the training will look like across 10 weekends? Each weekend will alternate between the physical practice and the philosophical practice. Every other weekend you'll be learning the structure of the class, the asana (poses) and practice teaching. In between those weekends, you'll dive into lecture & discussion subjects such as chakras, ayurveda, sanskrit & sutras, myths, mantras & mudras, and so much more. Friday nights are lovely and "spa like," featuring subjects such as meditation, restorative yoga, yin yoga, essential oils, and more.

Our 200hr program was built because we want more amazing teachers in our community at Asana Soul Practice. We want you! You'll learn how to sequence a class with creativity and purpose. You'll dive into the yoga sutras and the chakra system. You'll learn alignment, anatomy, ayurveda, and so much more.

This training is for those who are serious and passionate about becoming a yoga teacher, or for those interested in deepening their practice.

Celeste is an E-RYT 500HR certified teacher. She did her 200HR with Laughing Lotus, her teachers include; Dana Flynn, Sheri Celetano, Deborah Langley and Ali Cramer. Celeste completed her 300HR training in India with Sampoorna Yoga School in Goa, teachers include Mine Taylan and Sudhir Rishi. Celeste founded Asana Soul Practice in 2017 on a shoe-string budget and a dream, leaving her corporate career behind to create what Asana Soul Practice is today. Celeste's classes are fun & fluid, creative, welcoming, and expertly led. She will be guiding you through both the physical and the philosophical on your journey towards becoming a yoga teacher. She is proud to say we've hired at least one quarter of the teachers that have come through our training program, who have become some of our most valued and talented yoga teachers within our community.

Regardless of your intention to teach, or not teach, you will forever be a part of our Asana Soul Practice community. Celeste continues to foster an environment of inclusivity, mentorship, and support, for all our trainees, graduates, staff, and community members, well beyond teacher training.

Lead Teacher of Teachers

Lauren has been teaching yoga since 2013 and has obtained over 500 hours of training and over 1000 hours of teaching experience. She did her first 200 hour training with Syama and Dhyana Masla at Stanton Street Yoga/The Bhakti Center, followed by another 200 hour training with Alison West at Yoga Union. Since then, she has studied prenatal yoga with Juliana Mitchell of Living Now Yoga, Pranayama with Judith Lasater, as well as many additional hours of alignment yoga and yoga for backcare and scoliosis with Alison West.

Lauren teaches vinyasa, yin, and restorative yoga and also has her own prenatal yoga business. Lauren has been working with yoga teachers in training for 5 years and is excited to step into this role at Asana Soul Practice. Lauren’s classes and teaching style are a balance of physical awareness and spiritual depth. She hopes to convey the many layers and aspects of yoga practice to her students and trainees.

Mentor Program: You will be supported throughout our training not just by your lead teachers, but also via our mentorship program. Each student will be assigned a mentor, with bi-weekly mentor meetings required. Our mentors are experienced teachers from our teaching team. This is a great opportuntiy to ask questions, practice teach, and continue your learning experience outside of our weekend sessions. (Mentor meetings can be held in person and/or virtually)

Buddy Program: Each trainee will be assigned a "buddy," a fellow trainee, to help support one another. Bi-weekly buddy meetings are required. This is another great way to continue your practice and learning experience outside of our weekend sessions, and also hold each other accountable. These are casual meetings meant for friendship, study, and support.

(Buddy meetings can be held in person and/or virtually)

We are excited to launch our BIPOC (black, indigenous, people of color) scholarship program! We realize creating diversity and inclusion takes action. This is one major way we are taking action to create change. We realize there is a lack of diverse yoga teachers in our community, and we want to change that! Our hope is that by fostering a diverse staff, we can help foster a more diverse community of yoga practitioners at Asana Soul Practice. We are proud to be located in Jersey City, the most diverse city in the country, and we want our yoga home to feel like everyone's yoga home, truly and sincerely.

One FULL scholarship will be granted for our Fall 2021 teacher training.

We are looking for those who LOVE yoga, have an existing yoga practice, those who are dedicated and feel the spark to learn more, and want to share their love of yoga with others.

Please note, you must fill out BOTH the regular application and the BIPOC scholarship application (please click both apply now buttons, above and below)

"Deciding to do my teacher training at Asana Soul Practice was one of the best decisions I've ever made. Celeste and Meghan are both such talented teachers with a wealth of knowledge about yoga between them. Their emphasis on practice teaching from week one made me feel so much more confident by the end of ten weekends than I ever could have imagined. The training was structured in a really balanced way to create an immersive experience without getting too overwhelming. Perhaps the best part about this teacher training though was the community they fostered. They created a supportive environment where we could really learn and grow together while also having fun. Whether you want to become a full-time yoga teacher or just deepen your practice, I cannot recommend this training enough!"

- Jessica Eng, Asana Soul Practice Graduate. Fall 2018

"The 200-hour teacher training program at Asana Soul Practice is top-notch. The curriculum covers everything from anatomy and alignment to mudras and chakras, giving students a thorough and well-rounded foundation for teaching yoga. We were given the opportunity to start practice teaching on the very first day, so by the end of the training program I felt 100% prepared to teach a full yoga class from start to finish. This was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made, and I’d highly recommend to anyone interested in teaching yoga or even just deepening their own yoga practice!"
- Diane Wiley, Asana Soul Practice Graduate. Spring 2018
